J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs, Cast Sheep & Sheep with Lambs at Foot 28th March 2023

PIGS:
• Top price per head was £235 for Prime Gilts from D Nicholson, Cockermouth weighing 108kg and also CR Dickson, Thurnham weighing 109kg.
• Top price per kg was 228p/kg for a Prime Gilt weighing 90kg from T Hornsby, Silloth.

SHEEP WITH LAMBS AT FOOT:
• Continental Ewes topped at £325 with twin lambs at foot from JC&E Pedley & Sons, Sedbergh.
• Mule Ewes topped at £255 with twin lambs at foot from JC&E Pedley & Sons, Sedbergh.
• Texel Ewes topped at £245 and £240 with twin lambs at foot from J&R Waller, Killington.
• Cheviot Ewes topped at £202 with twin lambs at foot from JW&E Woof & Son, Sedbergh.

PRIME HOGGS
• 964 forward with a overall average of 254p/kg and a SQQ of 257p/kg.
• Texel hoggs peaked at £154 from DE&J Waine, Longsleddale, £151 from LA&M Lambert, Lupton and £151 from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston.
• Suffolks hoggs topped at £139 from Cornthwaite Moors, Hambleton.
• Hill hoggs sold to a top of £139 for Cheviots from GM Metcalfe Jnr, Underbarrow.
• Teeswater hoggs topped at £136 from DE&J Waine, Longsleddale.
• Scotch Blackface hoggs sold to £132 from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston.

CAST SHEEP:
• £173 was the top price today for a Leicester from A Troughton, Firbank.
• Texel ewes topped at £142 from J Twigge, Lindale, with Blue Texels topped at £138 from TA & J Dixon, Selside.
• Mule Ewes peaked at £120 from G Riley, Bolton le Sands.
• Hill Ewes saw Swaledales at £114 from R Lawrence, Grange over Sands.
• Small group of Cast Rams forward which averaged £108.
• Charollais Rams at £155 from M Cook, Ulverston.
• Texel Rams at £130 from MA&M Richards, Kirkby in Furness.
